First Practicum in EDPR 3100 provided to be an eye opener. I was faced with challenging students who I held a biases and belief of lack of capability. One student who unfortunately left the public school district will hold space for memory for the rest of my teaching career. Reflecting on the class, I realized how I approach organization and discipline was colonized way of thinking. That I know what is best and I am the all powerful authority. Students have so much to teach me; instead of feeling weak when they prove me wrong, decolonized thinking supports everyone with their strengths and weaknesses. I work to hold my students to standard and they work to hold me to one of utmost positivity. The essay below explores my realizations and works to break down biases I held.
